Yearly Public Speaking Competition 2023 organized by the English Speaking Union Chile (ESU)

This last Friday March 31st,, Sofia Fothergill from 12th grade E was our glorious  TISLS representative in the annual national Public Speaking Competition organized by the English Speaking Union Chile. This year’s theme for the ESU  national tournament  was  “Relations between nations are too important to be left to government alone.”

Through a video of her personally prepared speech that had been sent the previous week under the title,  “Do too many cooks really spoil the broth?”, Sofía  was  able to advance  to the semifinals which were held in an in person mode  at  Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez this past Friday in Santiago.

Our student made a solid and consistent presentation of her speech in the semifinals, facing interesting questions, and finishing with a well-built and interesting impromptu speech, which placed  her among the four finalists in the competition. The four finalists delivered  their prepared speech again to a new set of judges, and Sofía was able to present her ideas confidently and persuasively not only through  her speech,  but also through  the set of questions she was exposed to at the end, thus achieving the Second Place, silver medal, in this important national oratory competition. We proudly congratulate Sofia for her achievement and especially for her commitment, hard work, and outstanding public speaking abilities.

TISLS was very well represented and  we congratulate  Sofía  again for such an important  personal accomplishment, so  “get in the kitchen, put on those aprons, and start cooking. Because the more the cooks, the fairer the broth!”
