Video.

TISLS talents: Vittoria Velasco.

Young students at TISLS have a variety of talents, personalities and dreams, that make every one of them a special member of our community.

Vittoria Velasco is one of them. With 17 years old, out 12th grader has become an artistic revelation through music and today is the only regional representative between twelve classified over 500 candidates in a particular talent show that combines art and social causes.

“Talentoso” is broadcasted through different digital platforms, and aims to give financial support to social causes that have been affected by the pandemic. Every contestant represents one of this causes, in Vittoria’s case, glacial conservation.

“It’s the only show that focuses on that area, and I think it’s important that we make it vissible. I never thought that I was gonna be in a national talent show with Belén Soto or Américo listening to my work and analyzing songs I wrote late at night, in my bed… And it happened. Things happen slowly”, she says.

This competition is the result of Vittoria’s years of hard work and commitment. Since she was a little girl, she dances, sings, plays piano, guitar and writes her own songs. “When I was 11, I participated in TISLS’ Song Festival, and there I started to feel more related to music. I had piano and singing lessons, and now in pandemic, I took my mom’s guitar and started playing. That’s how I began sharing my music pieces”, she remembers.

Today, she has different songs inspired in her friends’ experiences and her own imagination. As the oldest of four sisters and one of our twelve graders, Vittoria is studying for the PTU test in December, but she recognizes this experience gives her confidence in the way of pursuing her big dream of studying theater and art.

“I would love to keep acting, complement it with music. I love to perform”, she says. And even though she recognizes that the option of doing it in Chile is minimal, she keeps way on track to achive her dream. Same message she delivers to our TISLS community.

“You have to be what you want to be. There will be people that will tell you different, but if you have determination and make the effort and work for it, you’ll succeed. You have to search for opportunities”, she points.
